McGruder Social Practice Artist Residency
McGruder Creative University
McGruder Creative University (M-CRU), is a partnership among Fisk University Department of Art, Tennessee State University Department of Art, and Vanderbilt University Department of Art, in collaboration with Berea College and Tougaloo College.
M-CRU will start Spring 2017 semester with four multi-day workshops at the McGruder Family Resource Center and participating universities. Partnering schools and community members will work together to approach new creative ways to tell stories and build communal ties. Workshops will bring in artists, academics, and activists to lead community-engaged programing, using film/photography, spoken word/creative writing, music, dance, and food, to have conversations and explore new ways to learn and contribute in society.
